This project is a product of the 2024 Dreams Resurrected: The Other Lives of Sakia Gunn film initiative, through partnership of the Newark LGBTQ Film Festival and Express Newark’s Community Media Center. A $2000 grant was given towards the production of a film piece inspired by the life of Newark icon, Sakia Gunn.

‘Her Voice: Charlayne Hunter-Gault’ short film.

Procrastinating at the start of an arduous writing assignment for school, Gwendolyn turns to her grandmother for help. The two embark on an inspiring journey through history to meet celebrated journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault, the first African-American female student to desegregate the University of Georgia in 1961.
